Gas Assisted Mold
Gas assist injection molding (GAIM) is a low pressure process that requires the injection of pressurized nitrogen gas into the interior of a mold. The gas flows through strategically placed gas channels to displace the material in the thick areas of the part by forming hollow sections. The process is especially ideal for large handles, equipment covers, doors, bezels, plastic lawn chairs, cabinets and skins.
Our Gas Assisted Mold Service
Using gas assist molding allows engineers to develop thin-walled components. It also is ideal for creating thick but hollow portions to thin-walled products. Because the component can be injected with low tonnage clamping pressures, the thin walls of the part remain in-tact and stable with gas assist molding.
The need for less plastic material and the consistent pressurization within the mold also enable gas assist injection molded plastics to cool faster, reducing cycle times and increasing plastic injection molding machine output – saving time and cost!
Gas assist molding requires expertise well beyond traditional injection molding. Shouldn’t you trust your next gas assist molding project to veterans in the field like Welson Mold instead of taking a chance on the inexperienced? Contact Us right now to get started.
